Pulling Teeth

Wednesday, the 16th day of August 2023, I got my wisdom teeth pulled. Now, this blog post will sound coherent because I am writing it a few days early. It’s safe to say that I will not be in any state resembling functional for a bit after the surgery. An update to this post will document my experience, but for now, there’s this:

PRE-PULL

I have posted before how writing is this daunting task that makes sitting down and actually doing it feel impossible, but for some reason the phrase “pulling teeth” eluded me until trying to title this post. There is a deep sense of disappointment in myself because it makes perfect sense. Getting myself to write is like pulling teeth. Getting myself to read is like pulling teeth. Getting myself to be active on social media is like pulling teeth. Now that I am actually getting my teeth pulled, I wonder if I’ll be able to judge just how accurate those statements are. Probably not, because I’m not the one pulling teeth. I’ve only ever done that in dreams, or nightmares if you get me.

At the very least, I am hoping to get some sort of writing material from the whole experience. Especially considering it coincides with my time of the month as well as having to move into my new apartment on Friday.

I am extremely excited to move in because I am moving in with my partner of two years and I honestly couldn’t imagine living with anyone else given the past year. He spent the entire summer three hours away for his internship, but given that we basically lived in his dorm room together the first year we were dating, I think we’re safe. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s all I talk about when I’m all drugged up like some people get. I can only hope whoever’s there records those first hazy moments and captures something funny. I hope I’m funny when I’m not aware. Guess we’ll have to see.

Comments are always allowed on all of my posts, so I hope to see some of your own wisdom teeth stories whether it’s yours or someone you know.

Wish me luck!

UPDATE/POST-OP:

Wow… That was an experience. With it only being a week later, though, I can hardly complain. I really get to consider myself lucky.

They did not have to make great incisions to remove my teeth (which are currently in a sealed little baggie on my bathroom sink) and I walked out of the surgery stitch-free! I was concerned a bit about the pain that was supposedly going to obliterate me once the numbness wore off because I wasn’t taking the Ibuprofen they wanted me to take (it has affects with my other medications). But the procedure went so smoothly, and I substituted with Tylenol, that I could just put ice on my face whenever I was uncomfortable. Sorry for the boring recovery, but I am quite pleased about the speediness after nearly two years of headaches, sore jaw, and other issues.
